The Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has ordered heightened security measures across Negros Island for the 40th EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary today.

PRO-NIR Director Arnold Thomas Ibay, in a directive issued on Monday, February 23, instructed provincial directors, chiefs of police and force commanders to roll out proactive security plans in areas expected to draw crowds.

Police deployments will be concentrated at key convergence points, including public plazas, churches, major roads, transport terminals, and sites hosting commemorative activities.

Measures include increased police visibility, intensified foot and mobile patrols, the establishment of police assistance desks, and close coordination with local government units, event organizers and partner agencies.

Authorities said continuous intelligence monitoring and threat assessments are underway to prevent potential security risks during the observance.

“We honor the spirit of EDSA by ensuring the people’s right to peaceful assembly while maintaining public safety and order,” Ibay said, stressing that the police aim to keep the commemoration solemn, meaningful and secure.

Class suspension

Several educational institutions in Bacolod City have announced class suspensions in observance of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod, University of St. La Salle Bacolod, St. Scholastica’s Academy, and University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos have announced no classes today.

Meanwhile, La Consolacion College Bacolod will implement a half-day class schedule.

The announcements will allow students and faculty to participate or reflect upon the significance of the historic event, a pivotal moment in Philippine history./CJ, WDJ
