The 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has emphasized that its security operations will continue throughout the holiday season, regardless of any announcements from armed groups, particularly the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).

In a press conference at the Philippine Information Agency – Western Visayas office, 2025, Captain Jesse Jun Ebalan, chief of the 3rd Division Public Affairs Office, said that government security operations are not swayed by pronouncements from insurgent groups, noting that “our mandate to protect our communities remains constant, regardless of dates, seasons, or political messaging.”

Ebalan said that the 3ID works closely with the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies to conduct lawful security operations across Western and Central Visayas, as well as the Negros Island Region.

Their primary goal is to prevent armed groups, including the communist terrorist group, from exploiting the holiday season to regroup, rearm or engage in activities that could threaten public safety.

The official reiterated the AFP’s position that CPP announcements are merely attempts to gain relevance as the army remains committed to ensuring that the people of Western and Central Visayas can enjoy a peaceful and safe holiday season, free from intimidation or disruption by lawless elements.

“While our fellow Filipinos celebrate with their families, our troops remain focused on safeguarding communities, securing vital infrastructure, and maintaining a stable environment conducive to peace and development,” Ebalan added.

The 3ID urged communities to stay vigilant, cooperate with authorities, and reject any efforts by groups seeking to undermine peace as the division reaffirmed its mission to promote peace, stability, and progress in the region and the nation during this crucial time of the year.

As part of its ongoing operations, Ebalan also called on the remaining remnants of rebel groups to surrender and return to the community, as the government is always ready to help those who choose to return to the fold of the law and live a peaceful and productive life. (PIA Iloilo)
