The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts pulled off a hard-fought victory over the Central Philippine University (CPU) squad in the Paskwa sa Miagao Celebrity Volleyball Game at the Miagao People’s Center in Iloilo province’s Miagao town.
The Bacolod-based Thunderbolts outlasted the Lady Scorpiona, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-13, in a contest that went down to the wire and kept the crowd on edge until the final point.
Both teams traded momentum throughout the match, with Tay Tung taking the opening set before CPU responded in the second.
The pattern continued through four tightly contested sets, forcing a decisive fifth frame where the Thunderbolts showed composure in the closing moments to seal the win.
The match was marred by injuries to two Tay Tung players — Alexa Bertolano and Mamielle Letran — who were both forced out of the game after sustaining injuries.
Despite the setbacks, the Thunderbolts regrouped and managed to finish strong in the deciding set.
The exhibition game was part of the Christmas festivities in Miagao and drew strong local interest, featuring collegiate standouts and drawing support from volleyball fans in the province./ASC, WDJ
