The Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has stepped up its security preparations ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, calling on the public to remain vigilant as travel, shopping and social gatherings intensify across the region.

In a public advisory, PRO-NIR reminded residents and visitors to take basic safety precautions, particularly in crowded areas such as malls, public markets, churches, and transport terminals.

Motorists were likewise urged to strictly follow traffic rules, with police reiterating a zero-tolerance stance on drunk driving during the holiday season.

The police also emphasized the importance of safeguarding homes and valuables, observing fire safety measures and complying with local ordinances regulating firecrackers and pyrotechnics.

Parents and guardians were advised to closely supervise children to prevent accidents and injuries during Yuletide festivities.

To support these reminders, PRO-NIR has increased police visibility throughout NIR through intensified foot and mobile patrols, the establishment of strategic checkpoints, and close coordination with local government units, barangay officials and other force multipliers.

PRO-NIR director Police Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay stressed that maintaining peace and order during the holidays requires collective effort from both law enforcers and the public.

“As we celebrate the Yuletide season, we call on everyone to stay alert, responsible and cooperative. Public safety is a shared responsibility, and with active community participation, we can ensure a peaceful and joyful Christmas and New Year for all Negrenses,” Ibay said.

PRO-NIR encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through designated hotlines, assuring that the police remain on full alert to protect lives and properties throughout the holiday season./CJ, WDJ
