The San Miguel Beermen (SMB) overcame a slow start and eventually cruised to an eighth straight victory by crushing the Terrafirma Dyip, 135-115, on Wednesday night, December 17, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Reigning nine-time PBA Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo showed off his all-around game, finishing with a triple-double of 10 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists without a turnover in 29 minutes of action.
CJ Perez came alive in the third quarter en route to a 26-point outing, as SMB improved their record to 8-2 and clinched a twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinals.
As it stands, they are tied with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters for the No. 1 spot in the league standings.
SMB trailed 18-26 after the opening period before regaining their bearings in the second quarter to build a 52-46 lead at the break.
They proceeded to torch the Dyip for 43 points in the third frame — with Perez accounting for 17 — to take complete control of the contest.
The Beermen went on to lead by 24 points in the closing seconds, 135-111, before a Jerrick Ahanmisi triple settled the final score. Five other players scored in double-digits for San Miguel, which shot a blistering 52.7 percent from the field.
Maverick Ahanmisi led Terrafirma with 20 points while Mark Nonoy just missed out on a double-double with 11 points and nine dimes. However, they could not keep the Dyip from losing their ninth straight, and ending the conference with a woeful 1-10 win-loss record. (ABS-CBN News)
