The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod has passed a resolution, calling for telecommunication and cable companies to launch an immediate and comprehensive cleanup of hazardous “spaghetti wires,” low-hanging cables and abandoned posts that have become increasingly prevalent across the city.

The resolution was approved amid mounting complaints from barangays over tangled and poorly managed overhead lines that pose risks to motorists, pedestrians and emergency responders.

Councilor Caesar Distrito said the proliferation of unsafe and unsightly cables is no longer just an aesthetic issue but a growing public safety concern.

“These unsafe and unsightly wires are real hazards to our people. We are calling on all telcos to act immediately and work closely with the city government to eliminate these risks,” he stressed.

Under the resolution, major service providers and other cable operators are urged to conduct thorough inspections citywide, remove unused or abandoned cables, correct spaghetti wiring, tighten or elevate hanging lines, and replace unstable or leaning posts.

To ensure systematic clearing operations, companies are directed to coordinate with the Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the Department of Public Services, and the City Engineering Office.

The city council also asked the National Telecommunications Commission to closely monitor compliance and enforce national safety standards. Barangay officials have been encouraged to assist by mapping and reporting areas with hazardous cable conditions.

Service providers are required to submit a detailed report to the city council outlining their cleanup measures and long-term maintenance strategies.

“This is about protecting public safety and ensuring cleaner, more orderly streets for our residents,” Distrito said./CJ, WDJ
