The first day of the local campaign period in Western Visayas remained generally peaceful, with no major political gatherings or security threats reported, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) said.

PRO-6 spokesperson Lt. Colonel Arnel Solis said, as of their latest monitoring, there had been no large-scale campaign activities across the region.

“The situation remains peaceful and normal. We are closely monitoring the start of the campaign period, and we are hopeful that all campaign activities in different areas of Western Visayas will remain orderly,” Solis said.

Despite the absence of security threats, Solis assured the public that the Philippine National Police (PNP) would remain vigilant.

The region is currently under normal alert status, but authorities are not letting their guard down.

“We have not detected any immediate threats to peace and order, but our efforts continue. We have maximized police visibility in strategic areas and are conducting checkpoints in key locations,” he added.

Aside from election-related monitoring, Solis emphasized that the police force remains committed to ongoing law enforcement operations.

“Our initiatives against illegal drugs, wanted persons and loose firearms are continuous. These efforts are crucial in maintaining overall peace and security during the election period,” he said.

With the campaign season now in full swing, PRO-6 is urging candidates and their supporters to adhere to election regulations and ensure that their activities do not disrupt public order.

Authorities also reminded the public to report any election-related incidents or security concerns to the nearest police station./MTL, WDJ
