The Panaad sa Negros Festival opened with a significant concern regarding the high prices of food being sold at local government unit (LGU) pavilions.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson expressed his apprehension after receiving reports about the exorbitant pricing of food items at one particular LGU pavilion.

Lacson said if food prices remain excessively high, fewer attendees will purchase from these booths, which could severely impact their sales.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring that festival-goers can enjoy the festivities without feeling burdened by high costs, which could detract from the overall experience.

This situation raises questions about the fairness and competitiveness of pricing during the week-long festival.

As the festival continues until Sunday, March 30, stakeholders are hopeful that a balance can be struck between providing affordable food options and promoting local products effectively.

The Panaad sa Negros Festival, known for showcasing the best local products from various municipalities and cities in Negros Occidental, has drawn attention not only for its vibrant displays but also for the involvement of private restaurants selling food at the LGU booths.

The festival continues to be a celebration of culture, community and promise — a true testament to its name derived from the Hiligaynon word “panaad,” meaning vow or promise./JB, WDJ
