The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts clinched the crown in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) Season 44 10-Under volleyball tournament held at the Bacolod Tay Tung Covered Court in Bacolod City.
The Rommel Taniñas-mentored 10-Under Thunderbolts bagged the division championship after a 25-20, 25-22 victory over the St. John’s Institute Bacolod in the finals match.
The members of the Thunderbolts squad are Andrea Zedd Chua, Ada Marschelle Asin, Scarlett Cuansing, Lucy Li, Madlyn Gonzales, Francine Iyeshia Ramos, and Karl Iyana Gaylan.
“This is unlike the typical volleyball game,” Thunderbolts team manager Jose Montalbo said.
“In 10-under, only four players are playing inside the court, and the net is much lower,” he added.
The victory was also considered a milestone for the Bacolod Tay Tung’s volleyball program as they have not won a championship in the 10-under division before.
“After years of trying, the time has finally come — our 10-U volleyball girls are the champions of the NOPSSCEA Season 44,” Tay Tung Sports said in a statement.
“Their hard work, teamwork and fighting spirit brought home the first-ever championship trophy! A huge shoutout to the coaches, parents and supporters who cheered them on every step of the way!” it added./ASC, WDJ
