The 29th edition of the Panaad sa Negros Festival, the festival of all festivals of Negros Occidental, celebrates the rich culture and heritage of the Negrenses with the promise of extraordinary festivities that kicked off yesterday afternoon at Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City.
The weeklong festival with the theme “The Future Unfolds” is participated in by 32 local government units (LGUs), including highly urbanized Bacolod City.
“Panaad” is the Hiligaynon term for vow or promise.
In his message at the opening ceremony, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Negros Occidental stands at the threshold of a new chapter in the legacy of the Panaad sa Negros.
“We are not merely celebrating the present, we are unveiling the future. We are unfolding a future where every Negrense can prosper, where our traditions are honored and where our potential is limitless,” he added.
Until March 30, Negrenses and visitors will be treated to festive music, dance, artistry, beauty, and delicious local delicacies as the 32 LGUs proudly showcase the unique treasures of their towns and cities, their traditions, their products and their stories that define the very essence of being Negrense.
On Monday morning, March 24, activities started with a thanksgiving Mass and ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the food security and technology showcase, food alley, livestock and dairy fair exhibit, art and trade fairs, and blessing of the LGU pavilions.
The Best of Festival Dances competition was held after the opening ceremony while the Lin-ay sang Negros beauty pageant will be held on March 28.
More than a thousand police officers and other security personnel have been deployed to maintain order, manage crowds, respond to emergencies, and ensure public safety at the festival site.
“We have expanded our lineup of activities to create a more vibrant and unforgettable experience for all attendees. With concerts, engaging contests, and captivating LGU pavilions, we expect a significant influx of visitors eager to join in the festivities,” Lacson said.
Festival executive director Charina Magallanes-Tan said this year will prioritize sustainability by promoting eco-friendly practices. (PNA)
