A former barangay captain was injured while his live-in partner was shot dead inside their vehicle at Bangga Tomaro in Bacolod City’s Barangay Sum-ag on Friday night, March 7.
Police Station 9 chief Captain Andy Ofalia identified the fatality as 44-year-old Carmilitia Davila, a resident of the city, while 53-year-old Federico Gayagas Jr., a former village chief of Barangay Bacong in Negros Occidental’s Bago City, was injured.
Carmilitia succumbed to a bullet wound and was declared dead in a hospital.
Meanwhile, Gayagas, who was shot in the head, was in critical condition at a hospital.
According to initial investigations by Police Station 9, the victims were reportedly followed by two motorcycle-riding gunmen before being shot at around 8:45 p.m.
Ofalia indicated that a long firearm, believed to be an M16 rifle, was recovered from the scene.
Authorities are exploring various motives for the attack, including potential personal disputes or business-related conflicts.
Gayagas was reportedly involved in a shootout with police in the past, raising concerns about possible retaliatory motives behind this latest attack.
