The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Spikers secured a dominant 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 sweep over the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Spikers in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Wednesday, February 26.

Negrense JayRack dela Noche finished with 12 points built on 11 attacks and one ace with two excellent digs as the Golden Spikers notched their second straight win for a 2-1 record.

Paul Colinares powered them to a tallied 17 points on 11-of-15 attacks, five blocks, one service ace, and one excellent dig, while JJ Macam scored 10 points on five attacks, four aces and one block with 13 excellent receptions and three excellent digs for UST.

“Masaya ‘yung buong team namin kasi kahit nawala si Josh [Ybañez] sa lineup namin, intact pa rin kami as a team,” Colinares said, referring to the UST star who is sidelined with an ankle injury.

“Kumbaga, kahit sinong mawala sa lineup namin, kahit sinong ilagay mo diyan, sure na sure kami na magpe-perform sila kasi ganoon ka-confident ‘yung bawat player ngayon,” he added.

Noel Kampton, who previously scored 24 points in La Salle’s win against Adamson, was limited to six points.

MJ Fortuna, Emman Fernandez and Eric Layug also scored six points each for DLSU, which dropped to 1-2.

Meanwhile, the Adamson University Falcons secured their first victory in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament, defeating the University of the East Red Warriors, 27-29, 25-23, 25-20, 25-17.

Jude Aguilar led Adamson with 17 points, including 14 attacks and three blocks, while Leo Coguimbal delivered 16 points, highlighted by a game-high eight blocks, six attacks and two aces./ASC, WDJ
