A barangay councilor in Negros Occidental’s Calatrava town was arrested through an arrest warrant for alleged acts of sexual abuse on three minors.

The suspect, identified by the alias “Papa Winnie,” is a 60-year-old resident of Barangay Lalong in the said town, Calatrava police chief Captain Jesus Alba said.

The parents of the three girls are currently in Metro Manila, and had entrusted the children to the suspect, believing he would take good care of them as they were considered close friends, Alba said.

According to the victims’ statements, the suspect allegedly pointed a firearm at their mouths while committing the abuse.

The suspect had traveled to Cebu but recently returned to Calatrava, hoping that the complaint against him had been dropped.

However, the village councilor was served a warrant of arrest for four counts of sexual abuse issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 58 in San Carlos City.

No bail was recommended for his temporary liberty./WDJ
