A suspected member of the Northern Negros Front (NNF) was wounded during an intense encounter with members of the 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB) at Barangay Caduha-an in Negros Occidental’s Cadiz City on Thursday morning, February 13.
One alleged rebel, identified as the finance officer of the NNF, was wounded during the clash, according to a 79IB report.
Prior to the clash, the military received information about the presence of the NNF members in the area.
The rebels were allegedly conducting activities to strengthen their operations ahead of the upcoming elections, the report said.
The government troops launched an operation that led to a four-minute encounter with four suspected NPA members.
However, the slain member’s identity remains under verification as authorities continue their investigation.
The military also recovered “high-value intelligence” documents from the site, which are expected to aid in further counter-insurgency operations.
These materials are believed to contain critical information about the group’s operations and plans, which could provide significant insights into their activities in northern Negros.
The military emphasized its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the area and neighboring areas, particularly with the midterm elections drawing near./JB, WDJ
