Local government units (LGUs) in Antique will be adopting delegations for the upcoming Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet as part of their support for the province’s hosting of the sports event.

Dr. Evelyn Remo, Chief Education Supervisor of the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique, said in an interview Wednesday that during a February 4 meeting with the provincial government, LGUs, and other stakeholders, they requested LGUs to adopt delegations.

“Three LGUs will be hosting a delegation by holding a welcome party and providing assistance,” she said.

Six delegations from Western Visayas, including Antique, will participate in the WVRAA, with each group consisting of 700 to 900 officials and athletes arriving on Feb. 25.

Despite belonging to the Negros Island Region (NIR), Negros Occidental will still join the event, scheduled from March 1-8, alongside Iloilo, Aklan, Guimaras, and Capiz.

The Antique Provincial Police Office (APPO) has been asked to ensure security and traffic management, while stakeholders and communities are encouraged to maintain cleanliness in host municipalities.

Playing venues and billeting areas are in San Jose de Buenavista, Sibalom, Belison, and Hamtic.

Remo also suggested decorating roadsides with flags and festive décor to welcome athletes. (PNA)
