Former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. for granting him executive clemency in connection with his 2017 administrative case, attributing the decision to his past accomplishments as Iloilo City’s local chief executive.
“It is adjudication, it is a restoration. And I thank President Bongbong Marcos Jr., for giving me this opportunity to be able to vote and exercise my right to vote and to be voted upon,” he said yesterday as he addressed his supporters following a thanksgiving mass at his residence in Barangay Tap-oc in Molo District.
“I again commit myself to the best service of the Filipino people according to what the President believed in — that is, to do what is morally right rather than what is politically correct,” he added.
Mabilog received a copy of the seven-page decision on January 24, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin by the authority of the President and dated January 15, 2025.
The former mayor filed the petition seeking to remove the administrative penalties meted by the Sandiganbayan in its October 23, 2017 decision, which found him guilty of grave misconduct, serious dishonesty, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of service in line with the implementation of Iloilo City’s clamping and towing ordinance.
Mabilog said the President recognized his achievements in good governance, the fight against illegal drugs, and the numerous awards and recognitions Iloilo City received under his leadership.
He also extended his thanks to Iloilo City Lone District Representative Julienne Baronda and her family for their support.
Mabilog shared that he plans to return to private life for the next three years and spend time with his family in the United States.
