Negrense Christine Joy Soyud made her presence felt as the Akari Power Chargers scored a 21-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-18 victory over the Nxled Chameleons in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Thursday night, January 23.

The former Adamson University Lady Falcons standout finished with 15 points, including six blocks, as the Power Chargers returned to their winning ways with a 4-4 win-loss slate.

“Ginagampanan ko lang ‘yung role na ibinibigay sa akin ni coach Taka. Syempre, grinab ko lang ‘yung opportunity para makatulong sa team,” Soyud said in a post-game interview.

Ivy Lacsina led the way for the Power Chargers with 17 points, including 14 attacks, two service aces, and a block.

Faith Nisperos and Camille Victoria contributed 15 and 10 markers, respectively.

However, Akari’s victory was bittersweet after setter Michelle Cobb sustained a suspected neck injury when she fell while attempting to save the ball early in the second set.

“Gusto rin ni Mich na maglaro kami as one, and ipanalo din ‘yung game na ito para sa kumpyansa ng team. So mas ginalingan talaga namin in this game,” Soyud said.

Chiara Permentilla tallied 20 points, while Lucille Almonte and Lycha Ebon added 13 and 11 markers, respectively, as the Chameleons remained winless in seven matches./ASC, WDJ
