2 women arrested; P2-M ‘shabu’ seized

Two women were arrested following the confiscation of more than P2 million worth of suspected shabu at Purok Laurel in Bacolod City’s Barangay Mansilingan on Friday afternoon, January 17.

The suspects — 39-year-old Maricar Chavez, a resident of the village; and 36-year-old Jessa Liza, from Barangay 27’s Purok Sirisa 2 — were classified as high-value individuals.

Operatives of the Bacolod City Drug Enforcement Unit seized 300 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of P2,040,000, from the suspects.

Chavez and Liza were taken into custody and are set to face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Meanwhile, authorities also seized suspected shabu worth P782,000 during a drug buy-bust operation at Purok Kawayanan 2 in the city’s Barangay Handumanan at 4:35 a.m. on Friday.

The operation led to the arrest of a suspect, a resident of the said village.

Several sachets of suspected shabu, weighing 115 grams, a pouch and P1,000 marked money were recovered from the suspect, who is listed as a high-value drug personality.

The suspect, currently detained at Police Station 10’s custodial facility, is facing charges in violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165./JB, WDJ
