Negrense Samjosef Belangel and the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus suffered a 74-67 defeat to the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters in the Korean Basketball League at the Anyang Arena on Sunday, January 12.
The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles standout finished with 10 points, missing all his seven three-point attempts, to go with four assists and three steals as the Pegasus dropped to a 16-12 record.
“It seemed like we were going in the desired direction in the first half, but the defense became loose in the second half,” Pegasus head coach Kang Hyuk said.
“I think the part where we were aggressively chased was the cause of the loss,” he added.
Jeong Hyo-geun led the way with 18 points, while Deonte Burton added a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Park Ji-hoon and Bae Byung-jun tallied 10 points apiece for Anyang.
Filipino Javi Gomez de Liaño finished with 12 points, including two three-point conversions, to go with four rebounds and two blocks as the Red Boosters improved to an 8-21 record, snapping their 10-game losing skid.
“The losing streak was too long, and I wanted to break it during the start of the new year, but we failed,” Jeong said in a post-game interview.
“All the players must have been upset because they didn’t get the results. I’m glad we broke the losing streak,” he added.
Youssopha Ndoye finished with a massive double-double of 28 points and 28 rebounds, while Lee Dae-heon added 12 markers for the Pegasus./ASC, WDJ
