Major roads surrounding the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Park and Lagoon will be closed on Monday, January 13, due to the nationwide Rally for Peace by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).

Road closures will start from Cottage Road, fronting the Social Security System Building, to 15th Street along Lacson Street, Jose Antonio Robello, deputy head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) said.

The city government announced that a portion of 6th Street will also be closed for the event.

The North and South Capitol Roads will also be closed for parking, Robello said.

He added that a traffic rerouting plan, implemented during the MassKara Festival, will follow the same plan for the rally.

Motorists from the northern portion of the city will turn left toward Cottage Road, going to Gatuslao Street and their respective destinations.

A one-way traffic scheme will be enforced on Aguinaldo to Benigno S. Aquino Drive, Robello said.

Road closures will be implemented from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight on Monday.

About 75 traffic enforcers will be deployed to the area to manage the traffic, he added.

A stage and light-emitting diode screens will be set up in the lagoon.

Robello said an estimated 20,000 members of the INC are expected to attend the nationwide event held simultaneously in key cities./WDJ
