A house was gutted by a fire in Bacolod City’s Barangay Mansilingan early yesterday morning.

The house, on Purok Paghidaet’s Hyacinth Street, is owned by Thea Mejia.

Fire Superintendent Jenny Mae Masip of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Bacolod said the damage caused by the fire amounted to P525,000.

They recovered cash worth P32,800, of which P19,200, owned by Mejia, were burned during the blaze.

The fire department has turned over that amount of cash.

Meanwhile, Masip said the householder was asleep when the fire broke out.

The fire started in the living room and spread quickly, leaving no one to be rescued.

According to the initial investigation, the possible cause of the fire was jammed wiring.

Masip advised residents to have experts regularly check electrical lines inside their homes to avoid fires.

It is also not recommended to repair broken appliances, such as electric fans, because they may overheat or catch fire if not repaired properly./WDJ
