Negrense Samjosef Belangel and the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus escaped with an 87-83 victory over the Suwon KT Sonicboom in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) at the Suwon KT Arena.

The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles guard was not active offensively, finishing with just two points, to go with three rebounds and three assists, as the Pegasus moved up to 11-7 in the standings.

Andrew Nicholson led the way for the Pegasus with 29 points.

Kim Nak-hyun added 16 markers, while Youssopha Ndoye and Shin Seung-min had 14 and 11, respectively, for Daegu.

Pegasus head coach Kang Hyuk stated that the victory was a huge morale boost for the team after bowing to Sonicboom during the first round of the eliminations.

“We lost the previous match against KCC by conceding many points, and the players’ spirits were low then, but we just tried to change things and be complacent in this game,” Kang said after the game.

“With this win, I think our spirits will be lifted in the third round of the eliminations,” he added.

“We will also prepare for our miscues in our previous games, but we will first take a rest since we are tired and mentally exhausted,” he added.

Moon Jeong-Hyeon led Sonicboom with 23 points, Park Jun-young added 19 markers, while Park Ji-won and Rayshaun Hammonds had 10 apiece as they dropped to a 10-8 mark.

Miguel Oczon finished with seven points, two assists, one steal, and a block as the Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus (13-5) escaped with a 90-89 victory over the Seoul SK Knights (13-4)./ASC, WDJ
