The San Miguel Beermen made it two wins in a row in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday, December 15, overpowering the Blackwater Bossing, 115-102, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Import Lorenzo Jones (29 points, 14 rebounds) and multiple-time MVP June Mar Fajardo (27 points, 22 rebounds) both had huge double-doubles as the Beermen improved to 3-2 in the tournament.
They had to overcome a shaky start that saw them trail 26-18 after the opening period, with Fajardo coming alive in the second frame to push the Beermen to a 55-48 halftime lead.
From there, the Beermen steadily padded their advantage, which eventually reached 15 points, 113-98, on a Fajardo free throw with just 90 seconds to go.
George King paced Blackwater with 40 points on 10-of-21 shooting, but their locals struggled with their touch. Sedrick Bareefiled was 7-of-16 for 17 points, and Christian David was the only other player in double-digits with 10 points.
The Beermen had a massive 66-29 advantage in rebounding, and their 28 offensive rebounds led to 28 second-chance points.
The Bossing dropped to 1-4 in the conference. (ABS-CBN News)
