Inflation rates for all income households in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental eased in November, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported yesterday.

Bacolod City’s inflation rate dropped to 2.7 percent from 3.2 percent in October, while Negros Occidental saw a decrease to three percent from 3.5 percent.

“The decline in Bacolod City’s inflation rate was attributed to a slight decrease in the indices of several commodities,” the PSA noted, citing categories such as alcoholic beverages and tobacco, clothing and footwear, housing and utilities, health, and personal care.

Conversely, higher inflation rates were recorded for food and non-alcoholic beverages, transport, education services, and personal care items.

In Negros Occidental, the PSA observed negative growth rates for various commodities, including food and non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, clothing, housing and utilities, and recreation and culture.

Bacolod’s inflation rate has steadily declined since peaking at 5.7 percent in August.

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental experienced a slight uptick in October, reaching 3.5 percent before November’s drop.

The consumer price index (CPI), which measures changes in the average retail prices of goods and services, serves as the basis for inflation rates. Inflation reflects the annual percentage change in the CPI and indicates the purchasing power of money. (PNA)
