Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island had another ash emission event that lasted for one minute, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said yesterday.
According to Phivolcs, Kanlaon Volcano has been observed to have continuous degassing with occasional ash emission.
It also released 3,891 tonnes of sulfur dioxide on Saturday, December 7, as well as a moderate 200-meter tall plume that drifted west-southwest.
Fourteen volcanic earthquakes were also logged at the volcano, whose edifice is inflated.
Alert Level 2 is currently raised at Kanlaon Volcano due to “increased unrest” following its explosive eruption on June 3.
Entry into the volcano’s four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone and flying any aircraft close to it are prohibited.
Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, and precursory magmatic activity may occur. (GMA Integrated News)
