The Farm Fresh Foxies overcame a gritty stand by sister team, the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, for a 26-24, 13-25, 25-21, 25-19 victory in the PVL 2nd All-Filipino Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Thursday night, December 5.
Negrense Alyssa Bertolano posted a triple-double of 12 points, 12 excellent digs and 12 excellent receptions as the Foxies notched their second consecutive victory to improve to a 2-2 win-loss record.
Trisha Tubu spearheaded the offense with 28 points, with 27 coming from attacks.
Louie Romero tallied 14 excellent sets, while Janel Delerio ended up with 10 excellent digs for the Foxies.
“Nag-work ‘yung teamwork namin,” Tubu said in a post-game interview.
“May konting lapses [kami nung second set], pero mabuti at naibalik namin ‘yung laro [in third and fourth sets],” she said.
“Madami din akong naging errors. Kaya sa next games, sisikapin kong ma-lessen ‘yun,” added the former Adamson University Lady Falcons star, who highlighted blocking as an area she aims to develop.
Thea Gagate led the way with 16 points, while Chinnie Arroyo and Jovelyn Gonzaga contributed 10 points each for the Thunderbelles, which saw their two-game winning run snapped to drop to a 2-2 mark.
Meanwhile, the Petro Gazz Angels continued their surge after a 28-26, 29-27, 25-18 sweep over the Akari Power Chargers.
Myla Pablo delivered a vintage performance with 15 points, on 13 attacks, one block, and a service ace, to be named Player of the Game as the Angels improved to a 3-1 win-loss slate.
“I’m really grateful for the trust that the coaches and my teammates have given me. It means a lot,” Pablo said.
“But this victory wasn’t just about my performance. It was a collective effort. Everyone contributed. That teamwork made all the difference,” she added.
Brooke Van Sickle led the Angels’ offense with 19 points, to go with 13 excellent digs and five receptions, while Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Mary Remy Palma chipped in with seven points each./ASC, WDJ
