The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6) directed police commanders in the region to implement maximum visibility in strategic places and areas of convergence this holiday season.

“There will be an influx of people and tourists in different areas in the region,” PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky said.

He said the heightened police visibility will ensure the prevention of crime during the holidays.

“We need to ensure the safety and security of our ‘kababayans.’ In all our deployments and crime prevention endeavors, engage the local government units, barangay officials, force multipliers, and other government and non-government organizations,” Wanky said in a statement.

He suggested that police personnel should be well-oriented before the deployment.

Police units have to ensure that their crime prevention and solution efforts are monitored and closely supervised.

“Review your respective areas of responsibility as to crime-prone areas, crime clock, where traffic congestion mostly happens, among others, and take proactive actions,” Wanky pointed out.

“By closely working with them, [we] will surely make this year-end celebration peaceful, joyful and memorable for everyone,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agencies (SOSIA) urged private security personnel (PSP) to assist in maintaining peace and order this holiday season.

“All PSP, as recognized force multipliers of the PNP, are reminded of their responsibilities to assist in maintaining peace and order; observe utmost courtesy and uphold the highest state of discipline; and maintain active coordination with the PNP office or unit in their respective areas,” SOSIA chief Brigadier General Marlou Roy Alzate said in a memorandum.

Alzate said the yuletide season may present opportunities for lawless elements or groups to “conduct illicit activities, posing potential risks to public safety and security.”/WDJ
