The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Lady Booters trumped Ateneo de Manila University, 3-0, to get its first win and remain in contention for a ticket to the finals of the UAAP Season 87 women’s football tournament at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Football Stadium.
Negrense Christy Logastua, Gleydile Añonuevo and Judy Prado scored a goal each as the Lady Booters improved to five points in the standings.
Añonuevo opened the scoring for the Lady Boosters as she unleashed a long shot past Ateneo goalkeeper Chelssy Casals in the 38th minute.
Prado scored a goal from close range in the 86th minute, while Negros Occidental’s San Carlos City native Logastua completed the rout in stoppage time.
“Deserve ng players,” UST head coach Marjo Allado said.
“For the last three games, parang nag-peak ‘yung players eh, kasi we drew against UP, we drew against La Salle. Then sabi nga namin na kulang na lang sa atin ay manalo kasi we already scored goals eh,” he said.
“Sabi ko, kung manalo tayo sa last remaining games namin, may chance tayo pumasok sa finals pero Ateneo lang ‘yung focus muna natin. Bawian natin sila kasi nung first round, tinalo nila tayo. Now, ‘yung confidence ng girls, medyo mataas na ngayon. Hopefully, in the next game against [Far Eastern University], kahit draw, we’re happy,” he added.
