The ordinance seeking to regulate the use of drones in Bacolod City has passed first reading.
The Bacolod City Drone Ordinance mandates the registration of remotely piloted aircraft systems or drones within the city, Councilor Jason Villarosa, chair of the Committee on Information and Communication Technology and Tourism, said.
The ordinance also outlines designated areas where drones can and cannot be flown.
Under the regulation, exemptions will be granted to law enforcement agencies, emergency management offices and entities authorized by the city government.
The registration of drones will be handled by the Management Information Technology and Computer Services Office.
Villarosa said one key reason for the passing of the ordinance is the challenges faced during the MassKara Festival last month, where some drone pilots operated without proper coordination.
Penalties for violations include a P1,000 fine and drone confiscation for the first offense, and P1,000 for the second offense.
Individuals caught flying drones in no-fly zones could face fines ranging from P1,000 to P10,000./WDJ
