Negrense Samjosef Belangel and the Daegu Korea Gas Corporation Pegasus suffered their second straight defeat in the Korean Basketball League (KBL), bowing to the Wonju DB Promy, 69-64, at the Daegu Gymnasium on Thursday night, November 14.
Belangel finished with a team-high of 15 points, including three outside conversions, to go with four steals, one rebound and one block as the Pegasus dropped to a 7-3 record.
Pegasus head coach Kang Hyuk stated that his players looked tired heading into the match, and the upcoming league break would be a great opportunity for them to recover their strengths.
“I think our [bodies] were heavy overall. We were pushed back a lot by the opponent in the first half. I think we just hung around the perimeter,” Kang said in a post-game interview.
“We lost today, but they’re doing much better than I thought. There’s still a long way to go,” he said.
“The players are doing very well, but I think I’m lacking. I need to study more and work harder, so that I don’t show my shortcomings to the players,” he added.
Chinanu Onuaku led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds, Sang Jae-kang contributed 14 markers, while Filipino-American guard Ethan Alvano had eight points, eight assists and two rebounds as the Wonju improved to a 3-8 win-loss slate.
Kim Nak-hyun backed up Belangel offensively with 13 markers, and American reinforcement Andrew Nicholson posted a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds for Daegu.
Meanwhile, Carl Tamayo and the Changwon LG Sakers continued their losing skid after suffering a tight 78-76 defeat to the Suwon KT Sonicboom at the Changwon Gymnasium.
The former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons center finished with 15 points, four assists, two rebounds, two steals, and a block as the LG Sakers dropped to a 3-7 record.
