Four job order (JO) workers in Negros Occidental’s San Carlos City tested positive for illegal drugs during random drug tests conducted from November 6 to 8.
At least 321 employees from various departments of the city government underwent drug testing as part of a broader initiative to ensure a drug-free workplace.
Confirmatory tests are underway for individuals who tested positive.
San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo said those who fail confirmatory tests will face dismissal or mandatory rehabilitation programs.
Gustilo added that this was not an isolated incident.
Last year, 18 city government employees, including regular staff, also tested positive.
The City Anti-Drug Abuse Council, alongside local health facilities, is overseeing these efforts to combat drug use within government ranks.
Earlier, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reported that 99 of its employees tested negative in surprise drug tests conducted shortly after the Pintaflores Festival./JB, WDJ
