A retired teacher was killed after her house caught fire at Barangay Aguisan in Negros Occidental’s Himamaylan City on Sunday, November 10.
The victim was identified as 84-year-old Amelita Gemotea, a resident of Purok Bato.
Himamaylan police chief, Lt. Colonel Anthony Grande, said Gemotea was sleeping in her room when the incident occurred around 12:00 noon.
The victim’s son-in-law said he saw the fire coming from her room.
Authorities tried to rescue Gemotea, but the fire immediately grew and engulfed the entire house.
Her remains were recovered after the incident.
According to the initial investigation, the fire may have been caused by a burning candle in the victim’s room.
The damage due to the blaze was pegged at P720,000./WDJ
