The Bacolod City government has realigned the P525-million Burgos Public Market rehabilitation budget for five other city projects.
This, after the market vendors did not agree with the city government’s rehabilitation proposal, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said in a press conference on Monday, November 11.
Among the projects with the realigned budget is the construction of a one-hectare animal shelter for 1,000 stray dogs in Barangay Granada.
Benitez said the existing dog pound is too small and cannot accommodate all stray dogs if the City Veterinary Office (CVO) rounds them all up.
It is known that the CVO plans to catch all stray dogs around the city, but it does not have a larger dog pound.
Aside from the animal shelter, the city government has increased the budget for the construction of the legislative building by P250 million.
An additional P190 million budget has been allocated for the New Bacolod City Hall on Araneta Street, P60 million for the Bacolod City Health Complex, and P15 million for the Bacolod Tree and Eco Park in Barangay Alangilan./WDJ
