There is enough supply of chicken and pork for the holiday season in Negros Occidental, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) said yesterday.
PVO officer in charge, Dr. Ryan Ranoya said poultry owners have already adjusted their meat production dates, allocating a large portion of their products as demand increases for the upcoming holidays.
Ranoya said prices of chicken have been stable at P203.31 per kilo.
For pork, prices are still low at P311.44 per kilo, he added.
Prices are expected to increase as the holiday season approaches.
Despite the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) that hit several areas in the province last year, farms in northern Negros can fill up the supply gap.
Based on the latest zoning status from the Bureau of Animal Industry, Valladolid town and the cities of Bago and Escalante, as well as capital Bacolod, were under the ASF red zone category or buffer zone last month.
The cities of Himamaylan and Sagay, as well as the municipalities of Candoni, Cauayan, Hinoba-an, and San Enrique were categorized under yellow or surveillance zone.
Sipalay remains as the only local government unit (LGUs) in Negros Occidental under the light green or protected zone.
The rest of the LGUs are under the ASF pink or buffer zone./WDJ
