The Negros Occidental provincial government has unveiled plans for the construction of 10 five-story dormitory-type evacuation centers at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said yesterday the project, which is valued at P50 million for each building, will have a total capacity of 5,000 people.
“This is the province’s biggest step yet in finalizing plans to build evacuation centers at Panaad Park and Stadium,” Diaz said.
The facility will be used not only for emergency evacuation, but also as accommodation for athletes during events, such as the Regional Meet or Palarong Pambansa, providing ample space for them.
“This facility is not just for evacuation; it is multipurpose. It will also be available for athletes during trainings and major sports events,” Diaz said.
The first building will be funded through the provincial government’s savings, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness and supporting the development of local sports infrastructure./JB, WDJ
