
De La Salle University avenged its first round loss against University of the East (UE) and opened the second round of UAAP Season 87 with a victory against the Red Warriors, 77-68, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After trailing 37-36 at the end of the first half, the Green Archers made a 27-point outburst in the third period against UE’s 17 to claim a 63-54 lead at the end of the said frame.
The Taft-based squad then led by as much as 11, 68-57, after a basket by Kevin Quiambao, before cruising into its fourth straight victory.
Mike Phillips had 27 points, 17 rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and one steal, while Quiambao and Jcee Macalalag had 10 points apiece.
Precious Momowei had 21 points and nine rebounds, while John Abate had 11 points for the Recto boys.
With the win, La Salle improved to 7-1, while UE slipped to 5-3.
Prior to that, Far Eastern University (FEU) outlasted Adamson University in overtime, 76-72.
Jorick Bautista had 21 points for the Tamaraws, while Mo Konateh had 26 rebounds and 13 points.
Monty Montebon had 16 points, while Anthony Fransman had 11 points.
Cedrick Manzano had a double-double of 14 rebounds and 10 points, alongside three assists and one steal for the Soaring Falcons.
