A big fourth quarter helped the TNT Tropang Giga pull away from the Terrafirma Dyip for a 107-89 win in the 2024 PBA Governors’ Cup on Thursday night, September 5, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson was superb once more, putting up an all-around effort of 26 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, two blocks, and a steal in 45 minutes, while shooting 10-of-19 from the field.
RR Pogoy and Poy Erram each had 14 points as the Tropang Giga improved to 4-1, putting them in a tie for first place in Group A after the first round of games.
The Dyip, meanwhile, fell to 0-5 despite a better effort from import Antonio Hester, who had 23 points and 18 boards.
“I think this ball game was really a testament to the willpower of the players,” said TNT coach Chot Reyes, who missed the services of Calvin Oftana in the contest.
“Even with the number of injuries we have, the guys who could play, we got great contributions [from them],” he added.
“Guys who hardly get minutes, I thought they gave us excellent minutes in this ball game, and that’s how we were able to cope and survive this ball game.”
The stubborn Dyip hung around and trailed 76-68 after the third period, but the Tropang Giga fired 31 points in the final quarter to finally blow the game open.
Christian Standhardinger added a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Stanley Pringle also had a 12-point, 12-board effort for the still winless Dyip. (ABS-CBN News)
