Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) director Colonel Joeresty Coronica believes that the reported abduction and alleged kidnapping of a college student in Bacolod City is “fake news.”
In a radio interview yesterday, Coronica said there is no truth to the incident.
He appealed to the public not to post unverified information on social media because it would cause panic among residents.
Meanwhile, the BCPO is still investigating the alleged abduction of a 21-year-old woman by four unidentified individuals onboard a van on August 21.
Police Station 4 said they checked the available closed-circuit television footage on that day in front of the Burgos Public Cemetery, where the student, a resident of Negros Occidental’s Binalbagan town, was believed to be abducted, but no unusual incidents were seen in the area.
They are still gathering evidence into the victim’s claims that she was allegedly abducted in Bacolod and managed to escape in Negros Occidental’s Bago City, when the suspects parked their vehicle to smoke outside the van.
The victim said her hands and neck were tied, and she sustained minor injuries./WDJ
