The Bacolod City Legal Office (CLO) is pushing for strict enforcement of curfew for minors amid alleged reports of abduction and kidnapping in the city.

According to CLO head Atty. Romeo Carlos Ting Jr., under City Ordinance No. 331 series of 2003, there is curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. for minors aged 17 and below.

This is for the protection of children, especially at night when illegal activities often occur.

Ting said the barangay officials should strictly implement the ordinance.

Based on the ordinance, villages should use a siren to signal the start of curfew at 10:00 p.m.

A siren blast will be sounded as a warning signal at 9:45 p.m., and another the following morning at 4:00 as a signal that the curfew is over.

The CLO said they needed cooperation from the village officials to deploy tanods, as only a few barangays were complying with the ordinance.

Currently, Barangay Handumanan is seen strictly enforcing the curfew, where they use sirens to signal that minors are not allowed to leave their homes starting at 10:00 p.m.

Based on the curfew ordinance, violators will face a warning for the first offense, community service for eight hours for the second offense, and an additional 16 hours of community service for the third and subsequent offenses./WDJ
