The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts emerged as champions in the 2nd TVC One-Day Volleyball 13-Under Girls Tournament held at the Barangay Tangub Covered Court in Bacolod City over the weekend.

Led by tournament MVP Mari Cacho, the Roberto Calamba, Jr.-mentored Thunderbolts 13-and-Under squad clinched the championship after defeating One Silay Sports in the finals.

Aside from Cacho, also receiving individual citations from the Thunderbolts are Chennie Millama as Best Setter, Mary Regine Wong Yan as Best Opposite Spiker, Morgan Sonata as Best Outside Spiker, and Edrianna Escultura as Best Middle Blocker.

In the elimination round, the Thunderbolts 13-and-Under team prevailed over Elite-B, University of St. La Salle-Bacolod and TVC, while they also won over St. John’s Institute in the quarterfinals and Darnatics in the semifinals.

Also part of the Thunderbolts 13-and-Under team are Sheerer Frederiz Uy, Heart Abucion, Mhegan Ordaniel, Gail Ordaniel, Choloe Depalubos, Cielo Palabrica, Jeydi Panisales, Nicole Jundos, and Czarina Ang.

“As their coach, I am proud kasi nakikita ko ‘yung improvement nila each time we compete in one-day leagues here,” Calamba said.

“They really work hard each day para ma-achieve kung anuman ‘yung na-achieve nila,” he said.

“Of course, they are still far from where they wanted [them] to be. It’s a slow process, but they are showing that they have the potential to be the next stars of Bacolod Tay Tung,” he added.

For his part, Bacolod Tay Tung team manager Jose Montalbo said they will continue to hone the skills of their younger players as they will soon be elevated to the school’s senior ranks.

“Their training really never stops, and it is really a process for them,” Montalbo said.

“We are really honing their skills because they will be the future of Bacolod Tay Tung volleyball,” he added./ASC, WDJ
