A woman died after her car crashed into a truck on the national highway at Barangay Caduha-an in Negros Occidental’s Cadiz City on Saturday morning, August 10.

Police identified the fatality as 37-year-old Jenelyn Amante, single, a resident of Cadiz Heights Subdivision in the city’s Barangay Tinampaan.

She was with five children, aged five to 16, and an elderly passenger.

An initial police investigation showed Amante was traveling from Cadiz to Bacolod City around 10 a.m., when she lost control of the car and collided with a truck, driven by Freddie Mariquit Jr., who was traveling from Victorias City to Cadiz.

The impact severely damaged the driver’s side, leaving Amante with critical injuries.

She was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The other six passengers, who sustained injuries in the accident, were taken to Cadiz District Hospital and Gustilo Hospital in Manapla town for treatment.

Mariquit is currently detained at the Cadiz City Police Station./WDJ
