Western Visayas has seen a significant 11 percent drop in crime rates in the first six months of 2024.
The Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 recorded 5,529 crime incidents from January to June of this year, a notable decline from 6,260 incidents reported in the same period in 2023.
PRO-6 director, Brigadier General Jack Wanky said the decline was attributed to the intensified anti-criminality measures implemented by local law enforcement.
These measures included increased police visibility, more frequent patrolling, and arrests of individuals involved in criminal activities.
Additionally, Wanky highlighted the significant impact of PRO-6’s efforts in targeting wanted individuals, which contributed to the overall reduction in crimes.
Wanky noted that Western Visayas remains generally peaceful, reflecting the effectiveness of the ongoing crime prevention strategies./JB, WDJ
