Negrense Canino, DLSU dominate Letran in Kadayawan volley

The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers manhandled the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights, 25-18, 25-13, 25-16, at the close of the 39th Kadayawan Women’s Invitational Volleyball Tournament eliminations at the USEP Gym in Davao City on Saturday night, August 3.

Negrense Angel Canino, Shevana Laput and Amie Provido continued their strong performance for the Lady Spikers as they ended the single-round robin eliminations with a 3-0 win-loss slate.

DLSU were blazing to start the opening set as they jumped to an 11-4 lead with connections from Canino and Laput.

The Lady Knights closed the gap at 7-13, but the Lady Spikers pulled away for good behind Canino and Laput.

In the second set, the Lady Spikers capitalized on the Lady Knights’ errors to establish a 14-8 advantage after a drop ball by Canino.

DLSU’s lead grew to double-digits later in the set with conversions from their off-the-bench players.

The Lady Spikers continued to dominate the Lady Knights in the third set as early hits from Provido, Canino and Laput allowed them to build a 16-8 edge.

Rookie Rianne Cortez then put on the finishing touches for DLSU late in the game.

Prior to their win against the Lady Knights, the Lady Spikers prevailed over the Lyceum of the Philippines Lady Pirates, 25-10, 23-25, 25-16, 25-15, and against the Davao Eagles, 25-15, 25-17, 25-18./ASC, WDJ
