A man was shot by a responding police personnel after he ran amok at Barangay Haba in Negros Occidental’s Candoni town on Friday, July 26.

Candoni police chief, Major Ruel Culanag, said the 35-year-old man, reportedly armed with a bolo and a screwdriver, was threatening the residents of Purok Orchids.

Culanag said the responding police personnel asked the suspect to surrender, and to drop his weapons.

The suspect allegedly attacked one of the police with his bolo.

Culanag said the man continued to chase and assault the policeman, as the latter tried to move away to avoid the attack.

The police shot the suspect in the leg to neutralize him.

Weapons were confiscated from the suspect, Culanag said.

The wounded man was rushed to the Kabankalan City District Hospital.

Culanag said the suspect would be charged with direct assault./WDJ
