Negros Occidental-based student-athletes who took home medals during the just-concluded 2024 Palarong Pambansa in Cebu City received their cash incentives on Thursday, July 25.
According to a media release, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the distribution of cash incentives worth P901,000 in a ceremony held at the Negros Residences in Bacolod City.
Among the gold medal winners is the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts secondary girls’ volleyball team, led by tournament Most Valuable Player Rhose Vianne Almendralejo.
Also present are Dizon-Saison Elementary School, which represented Western Visayas in the elementary girls’ softball competition, as well as Negrense swimmer Alexi Kouzenye Cabayaran.
Gold medal winners received P5,000 for each medal; silver medalists received P4,000, and bronze medalists received P3,000 each.
Negros Occidental-based athletes won 31 gold, 34 silver and 22 bronze medals in the week-long Palarong Pambansa.
Western Visayas has an overall medal haul of 56 gold, 41 silver and 41 bronze medals.
“Congratulations for bagging the third-place finish [overall]. We just lost to Region 4-A by one gold medal,” Lacson said.
“I am very happy with the contribution of Negros Occidental to the total winnings of Western Visayas in this Palaro,” he added./ASC, WDJ
