Mika Ella Medina and Krystel Monique Galanza of University of St. La Salle (USLS) Bacolod clinched a gold medal in the tertiary women’s doubles lawn tennis event of the 2024 PRISAA National Games at the Camp Ola Tennis Court in Legaspi City, Albay.
Medina and Galanza, representing the Negros Island Region (NIR), ruled their division after defeating their opponents from Region 7 – Central Visayas in the race-to-four championship round, 4-0.
For Medina and Galanza, this served as a bounce back after settling for a silver medal finish with Arthea Judd Escamilla and Andreana de Venecia in a lawn tennis team event last Wednesday, July 24.
Meanwhile, NIR’s Acel Mariane Cabalhin made her presence felt in the tertiary women’s taekwondo event after bagging a gold medal in the kyorugi finweight class and silver in the poomsae team.
NIR’s Dem Mark Gabayeron also won a gold in the kyorugi heavyweight class, Lexan Cabalhin captured a silver in the junior men’s finweight kyorugi, while Raizzen Nieves clinched a bronze medal in the junior men’s middleweight class.
On the other hand, Karatedo athlete Jerson Fundador Macalipay bagged a gold medal for NIR in the tertiary men’s kata event.
In swimming, Troy Boy Naranjo took home a gold medal in the 200-meter breaststroke event, before settling for a silver medal finish in the 100-meter breaststroke event./ASC, WDJ
