The Negros Island Region (NIR) continued their gold medal haul in the 2024 PRISAA National Games after ruling the tertiary men’s badminton team event in Legaspi City, Albay.
John Ababao and Lui Franz Lomugdang of University of St. La Salle (USLS) Bacolod, and Clarence Villaflor of North Negros College took turns with their hits in the finals round to claim a gold for NIR.
The NIR badminton squad was handled by coaches Carlos Benedict Hojilla, Desiree Joy Yanson and Roberto Pineda.
Meanwhile, the NIR secondary girls’ badminton team of Arkeexa Valens Ojera, Nichol Marie Paguio, Leanne Olegon, and Jollyen Ylosorio claimed a bronze medal in their event.
In athletics, Jennifer Hudieres of USLS-Bacolod claimed a bronze medal in the tertiary women’s 100-meter hurdles event after finishing the competition in 16.70 seconds.
Daisy Rivera of Guang Ming College (Region 4) captured the gold medal in 16.09 seconds, while Western Visayas’ Angelica Poche Belandres settled for silver in 16.10 seconds.
Charlaine Deocampo, also from USLS-Bacolod, also claimed her second bronze medal in the tertiary women’s 400-meter run.
Meanwhile, the USLS quartet of Krystel Monique Galanza, Mika Ella Medina, Arthea Judd Escamilla, and Andreana de Venecia ended with a silver medal in the tertiary women’s lawn tennis event after bowing to Region 7 in the finals./ASC, WDJ
