Chris McCullough responded to comments that accused him of game-fixing following an off-night in Strong Group Athletics’ (SGA) championship game against host Chinese Taipei A in the 2024 William Jones Cup on Sunday, July 21.

McCullough, who was named the MVP of the tournament, was limited to just 12 points on 4-of-16 shooting from the field to go with five rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal before fouling out with 2:05 left in the overtime.

Some fans online pointed out the dip in his production, especially with the former PBA import’s strong showings in the previous games.

But McCullough vehemently denied those accusations, calling it “slander” and “nonsense.”

“Ima respond to the slander one time and one time only. First of all, congrats to us on the championship of the Jones Cup!” McCullough said on X.

“I always rep the flag where ever I played so for some of you fans who’s saying all of this nonsense is ridiculous. [Because] I didn’t have the best game in a championship game now I fix games?”

“Come on now. It happens and it is what it is. It’s always the next man up.”

McCullough, who has shown interest in becoming a naturalized player for the Philippines, said he’s proud to see his teammates step up amid his own struggles as they became the seventh Philippine team to lift the Jones Cup crown.

Tajuan Agee came up big with 21 points, including four free throws that powered their 9-2 closing run in the fourth period en route to an 83-79 victory, while also grabbing nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block.

SGA locals also stepped up with RJ Abarrientos producing 14 points, while Kiefer Ravena listed nine markers, highlighted by a huge corner three-pointer that gave them a 73-71 lead before Brandon Gilbeck’s follow-up bucket forced an overtime. (GMA Integrated News)
