Strong Group Athletics (SGA) Philippines remains perfect midway through their 43rd William Jones Cup campaign.

The Charles Tiu-coached squad dismantled Malaysia, 89-54, during their faceoff on Wednesday night, July 17, in Taiwan to remain spotless in four games.

Chris McCullough was still SGA’s best player as he delivered 16 points, five rebounds, an assist, and a steal, but their balanced attack also worked wonders for them.

The high-flying Rhenz Abando soared with 14 markers, 10 boards, three dimes, two blocks, and a steal, Tajuan Ajee had a 12-point, seven-rebound game, while Ange Kouame and Derrick Fenner posted 11 and 10, respectively.

Meanwhile, incoming Barangay Ginebra guard RJ Abarrientos paced Strong Group with nine points, 12 assists and five rebounds, and NorthPort’s Dave Ildefonso had eight markers, four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

On the other hand, John Murry led Malaysia with 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and following him was Ateneo de Manila University’s Joe Obasa, who registered 13 markers, six boards and three rejections.

However, despite being tied at 46 in the third canto, SGA went on a 13-2 spurt which was ended by an Abando trey to build a 59-48 advantage after three quarters.

The Philippines then continued with their onslaught and went berserk in the final canto, outscoring their opponents, 30-6, and that eventually allowed them to keep their place at the top of the nine-squad tourney. (ABS-CBN News)
