The Chery Tiggo Crossovers are in the win column in Pool A after a straight-sets triumph over Farm Fresh, 25-13, 27-25, 25-22 on the opening day of the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Tuesday, July 16, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

As expected, returning American reinforcement Khat Bell was at the forefront of Chery Tiggo’s offense, with 23 points anchored on 22 attacks and a block — also the sole Crossover in double-digit scoring.

“It feels so great to be back here. You know, I’ve been waiting to come back since 2020, and it’s been such a blessing to be able to come back and, obviously, play for Chery, for sure,” Bell said during the postgame press conference.

The Philippine Superliga’s former Best Outside Spiker was also active on the defensive end, listing nine excellent digs and six excellent receptions.

In contrast, Farm Fresh import Yeny Murillo only registered 10 points for the losing side.

The Foxies, down 0-2 in sets, still got into striking distance in Set 3, 22-23, after an Ara Galang violation.

However, Louie Romero threw it out after a service error, then Murillo’s attack was blocked by the Crossovers to concede the victory to coach Kungfu Reyes’ squad.

For Reyes, they executed what they were practicing internally.

“Mostly, lumabas kung ano ‘yung tine-train namin. We worked as one, especially with the leadership of Khat [Bell] din. All we needed to do was to ring the bell. That’s all we needed to do,” he said.

Chery Tiggo could make it consecutive wins on Saturday, July 20, against Nxled, while Farm Fresh could rebound against All-Filipino powerhouse Creamline on the same game date.

Earlier in the day, the Chameleons edged the Galeries in a five-set marathon, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 25-27, 15-12, to open the second conference of the 2024 season. (ABS-CBN News)
